Oh noes! Tea Timer 1.5.1 hot fix
Thursday, July 30, 2009
There were two bugs in Tea Timer 1.5 (one minor and one major – try to change the alarm settings while »keep alarming« is activated :-D).
So I just released version 1.5.1 that fixes both issues. Thanks to Lakestone for the heads-up!

Between 1.4 and 1.5, the little "i" in the lower right corner vanished so that you can't "turn the widget over" to configure it. Or am I missing something? The "i" should come back as that's a standard interface for widgets.
vilain on July 30, 2009 at 14:21:
I'm running MacOS 10.4.11 on a G4.
Xerxes on July 30, 2009 at 14:27:
Hm, the configuration-i is still there in the lower right corner and works as expected.
Have you tried closing and reopening the widget? Or uninstalling and reinstalling it? And maybe deleting the configuration file ~/Library/Preferences/widget-org.sofa-rockers.widget.TeaTimer.plist? If all that doesn’t work, I have no idea what to do – I made no changes on the «i» since the last version.
Good luck!

Works great now, big up!

Just wanted to let you know that sekunden is spelled in english as seconds, so please use the abbreviation secs. Just wait with the release until another thing in teatimer, this wonder-through-simpleness, lest we be scared every other day regarding important (possibly security related) issues... :D
stepstone on August 1, 2009 at 06:58:
last sentenced got really, horribly garbled. i meant that hold that minor fix until the next big thing in the wonderful applet teatimer needs updating - it's unsettling to hear about updates and potential security issues every other day :D
Xerxes on August 1, 2009 at 10:32:
Hehe, thx for your comments. The next version (in a few months ;-)) will fix that.

Hi in 1.5.1 voice is not working, keep alarming is not working
tuwimek on August 4, 2009 at 15:11:
I just removed that widget, thanks
Xerxes on August 4, 2009 at 15:19:
Always a pleasure.
clondon00 on August 6, 2009 at 18:45:
I'm also missing the configuration-i. I have deleted the preference file, deleted the widget, reinstalled, closed and opened, etc. Nothing has worked.
Using 10.4.11 and 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo
???
Xerxes on August 6, 2009 at 19:21:
Hm, that’s really strange. Unfortunately I don’t have 10.4 anymore, so I cannot really test it … :-/ The code, that generates the i, is taken directly from Dashcode and I hoped, it would also work under 10.4 …
But I’ll try to find someone, who has it and then make a few tests with it. I cant’t promise anything, but I will see what I can do to address this issue.

Just downloaded Tea Timer and love it. Question: Is there a way to have multiple instances running at once? Like, one for tea (4 min) and one for pizza (10 min) for example? Thanks!
Xerxes on August 31, 2009 at 07:25:
Haven’t tried it yet, but should be possible, since I’ve nothing done to prevent this … ;-)
reneesweet on August 31, 2009 at 12:32:
Okay, I'm new to widgets. How would I go about doing that?
reneesweet on August 31, 2009 at 12:37:
Never mind! Got it. I just had to keep dragging it to my dashboard. Perfect! Now to go talk up Tea Timer on my blog... ;)
Laris(s)a on October 20, 2009 at 15:58:
hey! Nice timer but if I listen to music, I barely hear it. One other timer I used brings the dashboard forward when alarming, it helps! (check Stop It!). Looking forward to having new updates! cheers
Stefan on October 20, 2009 at 16:01:
Thanks for your comment. I think bringing the Dashboard in front is a very intrusive and disruptive way to remind you, but I’ll think about that or another way to make a more obvious alarm for very distracted users … ;)

I am also not seeing the configuration-i and I am running OS X 10.4.11. Has any solution been found for this?
Thanks
Stefan on December 8, 2009 at 08:27:
Sorry, Tea Timer is just nor running under 10.4 and I have no copy of it to fix this.

First of All -- I LOVE THIS WIDGET!! I can't count the number of times that this widget has saved me COUNTLESS HOURS OF TROUBLE.
I have had problems w/ Photoshop CS4 quitting on me after I had become totally absorbed in my work and forgotten to save my work for over an hour (or more)! Since CS4 (unfortunately) doesn't have an AutoSave option, I have used your TeaTimer widget to remind me to save my work and it has saved me TONS & TONS OF HOURS OF HASSLES & REDOs of my Graphic (& Web) Design work.
Recently, I have gotten hooked on the Facebook "Farm Town" <http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=56748925791> game where you plant & harvest various crops. The problem that I learned (the hard way, unfortunately) is that if you don't harvest your crops in a timely manner, then they go to waste and you lose the money that you would have earned otherwise.
After falling asleep unusually early last night, (and forgetting to harvest most of my crops before I crashed) I decided to make use of your wonderful widget to remind me when my crops would be ready to harvest.
After discovering this new use for your widget, I have a couple of suggestions for new features that you might add in your next version of "Tea Timer"
Also, one other suggestion...
I can't remember when I downloaded your widget originally, but I am fairly sure that it was AFTER 7/30/09.
You might want to show CLEARLY what version of the widget you have installed (i.e. next to the link to the website) on the preferences side of widget! That will help users know if they need to download an update or not.
If you can't add all of these, I certainly understand. For my purposes, I would rank the importance of the new features in this order...
But overall.. * I REALLY LOVE YOUR WIDGET!! ~~ THANK YOU!! *

I just thought of one other comment to add ...
The type of formatting code that you use on this blog is REALLY ULTRA CONFUSING!! Isn't there anyway that you can just use the plain old simple HTML formatting markup?? (i.e. <b> <i> <href> etc...) That would be SO MUCH EASIER!!
I spent 15min (or more) just trying to decipher the (Quickref) page that is supposed to spell out how to format your post but even that isn't real clear! This is especially troubling b/c I am in the web design field and I figure that if I am having this much trouble deciphering the formatting code then I can't even imagine how much trouble that someone who knows ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about web coding or HTML would have!!
Hope my comments help to make your Tea Timer widget even better.

Hi, I really like this widget, however I am having an issue with it resetting. I have multiple instances on my dashboard, each with its own title, colour scheme, and duration. When I restart or boot up my computer, each instance of the widget goes back to 00:00:00, they all become one colour, and have the same title. Any suggestions? I'm on a macbook, OS 10.5.8.
Stefan on December 15, 2009 at 09:08:
Hi, thanks for your comments.
@Kathryn:
Each background in Tea Timer is a separate image, so it’s unfortunately not possible to change it’s color just by entering some numbers.
With a few graphic and HTML/JS skills, you can add more background images – maybe I’ll post a HOWTO for this next year.
But I dont’t want to overload Tea Timer with to many colors by default, since most users are perfectly happy with the colors currently available.
The version number thing is quite easy. I’ll add it to the next release.
For comments markup, I don’t switch back to HTML – ReStructuredText is so much cooler and (especially for Pythonistas and people who don’t know HTML) much easier to use … ;-) But there seem to be some problems with the CSS for this site. I’ll try to fix them within the next few days. I’ll also enlarge the textarea for the comment text – just realised, how small it is g
@Jon: This seems to be a bug. I’ve never really tested many parallel instances of Tea Timer, so I’ll address this issue in the next release.
cheers, Stefan

I am running 10.4.11 and the i in the corner to configure the timer doesn't appear so its kinda worthlessly sitting there. i tried deleting it and reinstalling it. no luck.
Stefan on December 17, 2009 at 07:38:
I know, Tea Timer doesn’t like 10.4, but as I said in earlier posts I don’t have a copy of it. So unfortunately, I can’t test and fix this. Sry.
